Winter Escape: Lanzarote
For those of us who reside in Northern Europe, being able to walk around without a jacket, let alone swim, in December is a downright luxury. For those who live in the Canaries, it’s just another day. Always hovering somewhere between the low sixties and high seventies (Fahrenheit, as I am still American, after all), these Spanish islands floating off Morocco’s coast live in a warm little slice of heaven all their own.
To me, the Canaries always seemed like a place I’d visit when I was older, with the hoards of other seniors. But the past few years my feed has been trickling in images of the lava coasts, green lagoons and César Manrique’s architecture. All of a sudden Lanzarote seemed cool, and I was intrigued.
So when my friend Sam asked me to join him on a warm little work-cation late last year, I jumped at the opportunity. Besides working as a photographer, I also work as a brand strategist and copywriter, so it’s easy to take my work on the road. And funnily enough, I was just starting a branding project for an eco-friendly beauty company. Lanzarote and all its natural beauty turned out to be the perfect backdrop for my inspiration.
When not working, you could find Sam and I slurping down alcoholic yet caffeinated barraquitos, driving through black, endless lava fields, taking morning, afternoon and evening swims, and eating a ridiculous amount of tapas.
Here, you can see a peek of what we got up to and the sights we saw. If you want any tips, reach out!
